For me, it's emulating and playing N64 games with PS1/PS2 pads.

The Dreamcast stick is worse than the n64 one. Except for durability. The Dreamcast stick is invincible but it sucks the hardest of all of the oem sticks

Switch joycon caps fit perfectly over the N64 stick for a bit of extra grip. I really dislike that original plastic top.

Certainly today modern controllers are better. And they are especially so with the games for which they are made, modern games.
and it's the same with the N64, N64 games are made to be played with an N64 pad.

I got the N64 at 14 with Mario 64.
I finished the 120 stars in a week, I had no particular problem with the controls. and today whether with an original pad or with an Xbox 360 pad it's the same.

Playing Mario 64 or Zelda Oot with another controller does not improve gameplay.

The dreamcast stick is the only one of these plastic sticks that actively bothers me. Of course I don't love the plastic on n64 or saturn but it doesn't actively bother me the way it does on the dreamcast

I recently learned the trick of mapping L2 to switch the face buttons to being the C buttons. Hold for all C buttons, let go for A/B/C up/C right. For most games it’s smoother than using the right stick for C.

Not only it hurts your thumb and makes your palm bleed, it will turn its base into swiss cheese the more you use it. It's literally the dumbest and worst controller ever conceived in history. Nintendo should've gone with Hall Effect analog like Sega if they wanted high precision, but no, they had to turn a mouse trackball into an analog stick like the apes they were. The problem is it's so stiff that it feels unresponsive, like it's barely ever moving even when it's fully registering presses. That always led me to press too hard on it to get a tactile response and it would make my thumb sore.
