Also, schizoprenia thread.
Ask anything.

Just because of 4chan rules.
How much is the influence of schizophrenia in artist?

>> No.5830603

Sounds like a bullshit stereotype to be honest.
I remember seeing some documentary about schizophrenia and in it they showed artists with the disease. They were garbage, so don't worry, you probably would be too.
Do engineering if that's what you want.

yeah, undifferentiated is the best type to have. The least dangerous and the most functional. You would still have all the basic schizo symptoms but you dont fit a specific subtype of behavior. Catatonic schizo is really rare now and its more like mini-comas where you cant speak or move or look around you and shit. Also it involves echolalia in many people which is like saying random repeated words a in hypnotized states.. not all catatonic is like this but its the basic profile of it

Yep. Doc's going with the "tortured mentally ill soul with beautiful feeeeeeeellliiiinggs" stereotype. I don't know the extent of your schizophrenia, but if you think it won't interfere in any way with your competence as an engineer, I'd say go for it.

The competency thing is pretty important. Engineers pretty much have to be certain that what they make won't kill someone... unless that's what they're TRYING to make. Then they have to be sure it kills every single time.

I'm diagnosed schizoaffective. I've always done well with artistic, language, and mathematical endeavours. I love science, and I want to pursue something related to it, but my manic symptoms cause problems. I've spent roughly a decade in seclusion due to paranoia and difficulty with social situations; the only way I know to cope with it all is being completely entrenched in something that occupies my mind, be it math, science, art, or what have you.

Get a doctor who actually, you know, inspires you to figure out how to fix it. That's how you contribute to science. Figure out this tough problem,
>cure yourself or whatever
>publish papers
>???
>profit
Also, who cares if doctor says you are something or not. Instead of embracing a problem, figure out how to fix it or how to get help dealing with it. You don't hear people saying
>i'm a diabetic
>am i the good kind of diabetic?
>i haz cancer
>is it the good kind of cancer?
If your 'disease' is just as serious, you have to be the one to treat it that way.

No, sometimes all you have to do is convince yourself something is wrong, and your body will react accordingly. That's psychology, and that's the science side of it. Pavlov, anyone? It's not neurology, neuropathy, etcetera.
Also, no, science is things that can be done empirically. Psychology is largely anecdotal at this point. Although, there is some science, just saying 'doctor said I have mental 'disorder'' doesn't exactly qualify as science. Mainly because you don't really have a test for it. We can test for high white blood cell counts. We can't test for high schitzophreniagen counts.

True story, I developed a mental illness that I recovered out of, while doing a chemistry degree.

I obtained said chemistry degree, and not the kiddie tier chemistry either, but with a specialization in Inorganic and Computational Chemistry.

I had mediocre grades though, so I'm moving into business now, but it helped my confidence alot.

Schizophrenia doesn't prevent you from doing anything, it just adds some resistance to what your doing.

An engineering degree, with the exception of maybe chemical or electrical, is comparable in intensity to a chemistry or physics degree at full load.

You can do it if you apply yourself and just shut out social events. Which should be easy, since

1. Schizos tend not to like people; I didn't, and still don't, even though I recovered out of it.
2. You can spend your entire time studying if people avoid you because they think your crazy.

They aren't mutually exclusive, noob. Society IS part of nature in the human species. You can choose to go it alone, but the adjustment to that will be hard.
And yes, we have biologies evolved in such a way that society is served by exploiting trait diversification. But you're too noob to know much about all that. And I don't have patience to write the whole story and the studies which support this perspective. You will see it in the news, though, gradually, over the years.

Huge. You going to need to be heavily schizo if you're going to leave your mark on the world by splattering it with human paint. I recommend you start at a nice big preschool with only one exit.

they have actually determined that schizophrenia is physiologically rooted. its appears no matter what culture or ethnicity, or hysteria (somatiform disorders is what you would call "convincing yourself something is wrong"). psychology actually covers a lot more area than somatiform disorders.

schizophrenics to not respond to talking therapies and only respond to drug treatment affecting neurotransmitters. have even studied the brains people with negative symptoms of schizophrenia and found significantly smaller frontal cortexes.

yes, we can actually see schizophrenia happening.
