I'm not that schizo spammer guy but, I am also schizophrenic. And suffering cognitive decline.

I am age 24 and in year 2 of my degree. I changed majors since I could not handle the 50-60 hour weeks for an Architect. The stress made me psychotic. Seriously, every time I had to give a presentation the voices would come back. And I seemed to get more slow/stupid after each psychotic break. Is this typical or am I just getting really depressed?

I am trying to get a STEM major and work in a lab so I dont have to socialize much. But I dont see my math skills going past calc 1 unless my psychology professor can help me. She actually is going to ask the best doctors she knows if they'll take my insurance and is finding new doctors she knows who give therapy as well as meds, instead of the old guys who throw haldol at you. Like mine.

If she can help me not fail, maybe I'll graduate by....27? 28?

How much of a down side is being this old and having zero work experience?

On the plus side, I got an A in Orgo Lab. I could cook meth/mdma/dmt, if given the recipe (deep web) if i was about to be homeless and denied SSI. Prolly better stuff than the guys who've never taken a lab make.

Will a 28 year old schizophrenic be able to get a job ever if he has a degree? Or is it welfare/crime 4 lyfe like a nigger?

am I allowed to work in a lab with dangerous chemicals? i dont think theres any law preventing me from doing anything other than LEO/Military. By allowed, I mean by law. Not should/shouldnt.

Hate to break it to you but social interaction is expected in academic chem labs. I didn't bother going to one of the (supposedly optional) group cookouts and the next day my PI asked me if something was wrong with me because of it.

I dunno, go see an actual psychologist instead of getting advice from the internet.

Social interactions, people skills. They are extremely important and relevant for 99% of job environments. ESPECIALLY laboratories where you're working as part of a team. Communication is key.

Several STEM fields might require you to work more than 50-60 hours/week...

If you're going to be working in an orgo lab, you'll definitely be working 60+hours a week. Those synthetic guys are pretty crazy (at least the PhD students). I've seen those guys leave the lab around midnight monday-friday, then 8 or half days on the weekends. But yes, you probably won't have to socialize.

I don't know what kind of hours you'll be working as lab tech (which is what you'll be doing with a BS), probably just 9-5.

Just letting you know. There might be easy STEM paths too.

I want a 30-40 hour a week grunt lab job. Im only getting my BS, in 10 years of being there.

If that fails, ill try to be a drug/alcohol counsellor since I am an expert on drugs.

My professor is one. she is helping me improve my symptoms.

I dont want to let the people in my stem major know I am schizo. they will fear/resent/blame things on me. Only psych professors get to know since they are not biggoted towards schizos

What is an easy stem path you would say? 30k a year and I can live as a single man in a bad area here. Then money for some drugs, food, water, internet, a car, etc...

Nothing relaly nice, but im not a high achiever.

Prison or homelessness

Minimizing social contact is the wrong strategy.

You need to find a place with people who understand you, and who you can trust to keep you grounded in reality when you start to drift away.

Trying to keep it a secret and go through life alone is setting yourself up to be miserable and stressed out and deteriorate.

You are the same schizo spammer guy, because you are still trying to justify cooking meth and other things. You would like to work in a lab because you would have access to all these reagents and equipment. You are not the first person to go down this road. You are here asking /sci/ because you want to use them anonymously to validate your rationale.

You are not really schizophrenic, but you use it to elicit sympathy. Take note, /sci/.

Also, be sure that if you do get to work in a real lab, the stress you will encounter under a deadline is just as intense and unpleasant as that in architecture.

Not sure. All schizos type like that pretty much. Or worse.

Drug use isn't exactly unique to one of them either. 70% are hard drug addicts, and 90% smoke cigs

"like a nigger"

OP, your most recent break was pretty severe. Look in the mirror. You are a black man.

>All schizos type like that pretty much.

I met a schizophrenic off his meds. The conversation was absolutely random. It was one of the most impressionable things on me in my life. We'd be talking about some show and then instantly change topics to music theory or wolves... just things that had no relevance to what we were talking about before. There would never be tie-in's, the change from topic to topic would be instant and unrelated to the topic beforehand.

I would imagine the typing style of a schizophrenic would be barely understandable (off meds). I doubt most could even finish a coherent thought and actually hit the submit button.

That's a bad case. Tangential is more common and swerving away from the topic.

Complete change of topic is severe.

OP seems functional. Many are.

Why do you think OP is not schizo? If he's the same guy that spams, short of spending days researching an abnormal psychology textbook, and asking schizophrenics personally how it presents in the teenage years, he would not know to say the things he has.

Being a Psychology major, he seems like one to me.

Good luck with that. Lab work nowadays is working in a team 40 hours the week.

Oh. So what STEM jobs for biology/chem/biochem can I get that'd be good for a loner, and hve 30 hour weeks? lower pay is fine.

BS only.

Im good with animals too, so i guess i could do zoology if theres a loner option there.

You could be a lab tech in a HS, good hours and holidays, liveable pay. Spend most of your time in the store room on your own, only deal with teachers when they ask for things.

i had a mental break while i was in college i spent all night righting down the answers to every question i could think off right off the top of my head. I left my apartment in the morning got lost on the road was dehydrated and went to an Er and then went to recovery/ nut bin for about 2-3 weeks where i was heavily sedated while i calmed down. After i got out i went back to my apartment i was looking forward to reading all the things i wrote. I looked at the paper and it was chicken scratch, I couldn't read it at all i was fuckin astonished i was sure i had been writing everything in English.O_o

The interesting thing to me is that anyone with schizophrenia would for even a second consider being a drug dealer. You have someone who can't even handle the stress of talking to their coworkers or studying for some classes deluding themselves into thinking they could handle the stress of committing felonies all day long to not stay homeless. I'm not sure I could think of something more stressful than that... well maybe prison. Which is where you would go if you made a mistake living your breaking bad fantasies.

Pull yourself together, OP. Forget that drug bullshit. Forget even working in a lab. Forget college of any kind. You're a round peg trying to force yourself into a square hole.

Learn to program, son. Programming is the only 'field' an intelligent person can pull themselves out of the shithole existence you have found yourself in. Truly one of the only meritocracies left in our society. If you're smart enough to do ochem you can program like a beast. Good luck.
