I have schizophrenia and bipolar II which is schizoaffective. My cognitive function seems to be declining. My grades are getting worse and worse as time goes on.

Am I destined to give up science and have a normal job? I'm getting discouraged because it's like my brain can't make connections any more. Is this a symptom of schizo, or am I just dumb?

>> No.4529680

both most likely

>> No.4529683

what meds? most antipsychotics make you dumb

>> No.4529696

To be honest holding down a normal job will be ambitious if you genuinely have schizophrenia let alone both it and Bipolar II. I presume you're medically diagnosed and not wasting our time right?

well i'd say the mood stabiliser and the xanax is more likely to cause cognitive problems than the AP in this case.

I get too depressed and fearful with out xanax and lamictal.

If I get depressed I start using crystal meth. FEELS BAD MAN.

I feel defective. I can't concentrate any more. I used to be a 4.3 GPA student in high school.

just because you have a drug problem and probably had a psychotic episode once doesn't mean you have a "disease".

there are identical twins where only one has schizophrenia. the whole thing is society induced. when everyoen around you treats you like you're crazy, it will make you crazy.

my advise is to move far away from your family and cut them out of your life. stop taking the meds and just get a simple job and enjoy life without pressure to "succeed" and watch as your paranoia and anxiety melt away.

xanax is highly addictive, and fear is the withdrawal symptom.

I used to think people could read my thoughts, I thought everyone wanted to attack me, I have thoughts in different voices in my head when im off my meds, i sometimes think vans have feds in them that want to frame me, I think people reaching into their pockets are reaching for a weapon, i think girls i talk to have a bf around the corner who wants to rob me when im distracted, i think everyone close to me hates me, I think girls who talk to me are ridiculing me, etc...

this was all before I even tried weed. the meth didn't cause this. I started meth at age 21 because I got sick and tired of depression. Adderall made me happy, so I thought meth would make me happier.

I have schizo. I also hear someone tapping on my window at night. I used to see shadow figures moving on my walls at night when i was a teenager too.

Lol so you wrecked your brain on trailer trash candy and now you're wondering if you can make it in academia long enough to get a useful degree. Gee, what a puzzle.

This fear happens when I haven't been on xanax for months.

My doctor drug tested me every week for 6 months to confirm I had schizo, i remained sober during this time.

oh i forgot to answer the bulk of your question. then when you're off all drugs and feeling positive about life you'll be in a much better place to go to school. in your free time while working you can continue learning, giving you an advantage for when you go back to school.

Are you really sure some people are not just fucking with you? Some assholes' greatest hobby is to fuck with other peoples mind.

Yes. Unless my psychiatrist is fucking with me for laughs.

I only have minimal positive symptoms. Most of my symptoms are negative such as problems concentrating, anhedonia, social isolation etc...

problems concentrating, anhedonia, social isolation etc...

join the club. i bet i could get diagnosed with all sorts of shit if i went to one of those cranks. of course there are cases of people that are truly gone but all this stuff is waaaayyyy over diagnosed.

1-2% of the population is schizo? really dr katz? are you sure you don't just need patients coming to see you every few weeks for a big fat insurance pay check?

these antipsychotic drugs literally shrink your brain. i really suspect they'll look back on modern psych like we look back at doctors bleeding toxins out of people with fevers. of course you stop a person from behaving manically when they can barely move there brain is so fucked.

If OP is talking to voices in his head when off medication, he had schizophrenia or bipolar with psycosis. Simple as that.

>> No.4529854

Reading this I've learned not to abuse drugs, but to use them occasionally for their purpose.

>> No.4530608

Sucks OP. Docs I work with see a lot of people who get diagnosed in college because it's when symptoms start becoming severe.

He told me "It's too bad but they'll be under a bridge sooner or later."

Not all hope is lost though. Read about John Nash.

go to a psychiatrist OP, thats how simple it is.

I'm seeing one currently. The meds help with my paranoid delusions but they don't help with my memory problems, lack of concentration, and inability to enjoy everyday activities. The lack of enjoyment is a big problem and causes me to use drugs since feeding my brain happy chemicals fixes it.
