Things /sci/ is wrong about.

/sci/:

Real Life:
Fuck no. There's tons of jobs at government labs like NRL ect. or NASA contractors that will take you. /sci/ pretends these jobs don't exist and only academia exists.

Real life:
Self taught coders are despised among employers. Self teaching yourself to be a code monkey quickly becomes incestuous with yourself: you're the only one that writes, uses, tests, debugs, critiques your code. Btw, all the people I know who work at Google have physics or CS PhDs.

I know a guy who got hired by Google with just a BS CS degree. Then again, the dude had so many independent projects to put on his resume and talk about that most of the places he applied to didn't even know he went to school.
