Dinosauria is a monophiletic group that includes birds, not all dinosaurs are birds but all birds are dinosaurs. Simillarly, all mammals are vertebrates but not all vertebrates are mammals.

Today's owls have the ability to timeslip. You never know from what time the owl you see was hatched. It could have been last year; it could have been seven centuries from now. Perhaps the birds themselves preceeded the dinosaurs, but from the future.
