We also have an incredibly religious political class. Remember how shocked everyone was when Clegg came out as an atheist? Our senior politicians are as religious as the American ones, if not more. Cameron and Brown aren't as bad as Blair was, but they're not much better.

At least it can't be taught in state schools. It's wrong this happens but you'd have to be special sent there for this "education". The parents deserve to have their kids taken away.

Since it's an independent school though, their parents put them into this kind of program, so such a curriculum is to be expected.

I remember an assembly in my primary school where a teacher said "we as Christians believe that the Earth was created by God in six days" or some such shit.

Schools are still told to have a period of daily worship of "a broadly Christian nature". A lot of schools actually follow these rules.

It must be even worse in faith schools, something that the last government encouraged after seeing how well they worked in Northern Ireland.

Yea I also had all the assembly shit in my primary school, my parents explained to me from a young age that it wasn't right for them to force it on us and it was a relic of a by gone age.
It's been nice to have had a life where I have been presented with various theories on how things may work and to be allowed to choose which one I believed when I was old enough to make the decision for myself. I thank my parents for that.

I don't need to, but there are a few things theologically and with human nature that help support my claim.

Even if I am wrong and there is no God, I still understand everything, but it does take a lot of faith to still hold a lot of these theories, and honestly, I think we'll be dead before we really get anywhere into understanding existence.

Also, I don't like the idea of life being technically meaningless and "right and wrong" being no more than a ideology than being definite.

The point of hypotheses are that they answer questions and can be proven. God does not do this. In fact, God is often actively made to be untestable, thereby making it, by definition, not a valid theory but merely an idea. Not even an interesting one at that, because it just raises exactly the same questions it is supposed to answer. At least Hawking's hypothesis answers questions.

Think about it; the point of life can't possibly be "furthering our understanding of how things work". That would be futile in the extreme. Hawking et al have absolutely no idea what the purpose of life is; that's the whole fukcing point.
