It won't work because for every magnetic attraction there will also be a magnetic repulsion. The magnets around the lid are symmetrical, so for every north pole being attracted to the external magnet, there will be a south pole being repelled. It will balance out to zero.

If you build this thing, it will not turn continually. It might turn a fraction of a revolution to settle into the lowest-energy state.
