This is my first semester taking Chemistry and my first real introduction to it. I took physics in high school so I never got to taste what Chemistry was all about.

Holy shit Chemistry is AWESOME!

Baby chemistry? Have you ever looked at a quality total synthesis paper? Please explain how upolong chemistry or orthogonal protection are trivial. Please detail how Hammet plots have furthered our understanding of reaction mechanisms. What is the significance of the Marcus inverted region? How has the development of lytropic liquid crystals affected modern technology?

Today the challenge presented to biochemists is to compare the relative merits of various total and formal syntheses of the compound aspidospermidine with special focus on the work of Aube, Zard, Stork, and Martin. Failure to consider atom economy, overall yield, quantity and difficulty of purification, reagent cost, and stereochemistry will constitute incomplete work.

QMfag reporting. QM is halfway between chem and physics. I've published in both chemistry and physics journals, depending on the applications/focus of my work. (Also, I have one article in a computing journal because I came up with a neat method of doing some matrix calculations.) I had a choice of which degree program I wanted to be in, whether I wanted "physics" or "chemistry" on my parchment, and my advisor was technically part of both departments.
