Why would you want to read this deadbeat? I can understand why you might find him compelling if you were some 20-something living in the West in the 60s who had never heard of the Buddha before, but why bother with a sleazy white guru now?

Not OP but I consider him a popularize and entertainer not a true teacher. Still I find his voice soothing and his lectures fun. His idea of the western mind seeing the world as an object or vessel without a creator vs Indian culture seeing the world as a dream play is interesting if nothing else.

Better off reading real buddhist books

>In the Buddhas Words
>Without and Within
>Way of the Bodhisattvas

Are all great introductory and comprehensive portrayals of buddhism that will really give you a taste of eastern philosphy and actually help improve your life. Watts is fun but he ends up being a lot of mental masturbation.

A low dose of mushrooms would clear up most of that impotent rage you have, and who knows you might learn some perspective.

The Wisdom of Insecurity

Hands down. Short and sweet. Captures the essence of his thought and distills it wonderfully. The basic premise is that the feeling of insecurity is the same thing as the desire to be secure, given that none of us can never actually be secure.
