How did you guys do it? I'm really struggling to follow along. The setting switches between the Congo jungle and within the boat a lot, and the story feels kind of non-linear. I genuinely cannot understand whats going on.

This has been one of the most abysmal books I have ever wasted an hour of my time trying to read. This is god damn horrible. What kind of lying, self-righteous bleat bag do you have to be to seriously think this piece of trash is worth anything except kindling? What a god damn waste of time. Heart of Darkness is so fucking boring that it made me never want to touch a book again. Purchased at the gleaming recommendation of nearly every lit chart available and forced myself to read it in its entirety. If given the choice between having to read it again and peel off a fingernail, I'd do the latter.

When this came out, nobody who hadn't experienced actual trauma could ever hope to really understand Kurtz or "The Horror". I think that things are different now.

Up until the age of the internet, "The Horror" was a tangible thing. It was blood and pain and hopelessness in person, right in your face. Social media is a more abstract "Horror", but it still fits into what Kurtz experienced in the jungle. So many people truly hate it but are drawn in nonetheless.

What do you guys think?
