Nasu was an edgelord (Hisui True, Akiha, HF, or Nu-Ciel Normal) during early days but he mellowed out over the years. Originally Nasu actually planned for HF Normal to be the only ending, not HF True. As he got older, he lose his edge and turned the Fate into a archetypical shounen direction with friendship, forgiveness, and lost his edge.

Nasu has gotten old and doesn't have that edgyness in him anymore. Nasuverse was extremely violent and murder porn-ish at times but he's mellowed out over the years and wants to draw lighter, happier shit.

Thoughts on the VN as a whole:

Kohaku > Hisui > Arc > Akiha > Ciel

Cute moon dork that unfortunately gets written out entirely during Far Side. Her route was a good intro route that sufficiently laid the foundation for the rest of the VN, but I'd actually argue it reveals too much. The part near the end where Akiha just info dumps everything about SHIKI and Shiki being adopted ends up hurting Akiha's route later, and in retrospect I don't feel that it was needed for the final showdown between Shiki and Roa when the rest of the route is really just about Shiki being a fish out of water admidst his love story with Arc. Her True and Good ending also feel superfluous compared to how shocking the others could be.

Arc route literally had pointless world building that barely has anything to do with the actual story and is essentially just Nasu endlessly raving about his ideas that aren't even used or employed in the 3 Far Side Routes. Nrvnqsr was an amazing villain and way better than Roa, but the game kills him way too early before he has time to really shine. Roa appears in the last act of the story and barely has any personality or charisma, compare this to Fate route's Gilgamesh who also only appears at the end of the story yet immediately steals the story with his commanding presence, threat and oozing charisma, which is funny because Roa's presence is all over Tsukihime and is constantly mentioned as a super menacing big bad by other characters like Ciel and Arc while Gilgamesh comes out of nowhere.

Kind of just feels like a worse version of Arc's route, not helped by how the VN repeatedly hammers in how sexy and pretty Arc is whenever Shiki sees her, down to the 3P ending. Ciel almost feels like a pity heroine at times.
I don't dislike Ciel herself though, she's just my least favorite of the 5 heroines.

As previously mentioned, I think this route was hurt a lot by Arc route infodumping the entire conflict. While Shiki still finds out about being the NBR that SHIKI killed and about the Tohno blood problem in Hisui and Kohaku routes, it's not the main conflict in those routes. Here, 3/4ths of the route is spent dancing around that issue and teasing the possibility of Akiha or Shiki being the serial killer when we already know that isn't true. Though the kys part at the end was kino and especially poignant because Shiki values life so much, nice melancholic True Ending with a shocking Normal Ending.

Shiki going "Akiha isn't my sister. She's my woman." will live rent free in my head for a while.

Cutest maid, cutest heroine, I fucking love maids and osananajimi. Loved her route both for watching Shiki gradually go more and more schizo while stuck in bed and also for the romance. And the HFK endings of course. Hisui Good was my favorite Good ending out of the lot, Kohaku losing all her memories and not killing Akiha was a better redemption for her than her own route imo, and the scene afterwards with Shiki and Hisui in the grass field was sweet. I would have liked to see Hisui interact with Akiha more, seeing as they were also playmates. They barely talk as it is, except when Akiha is yelling at her.

Regarding Sacchin, I was pretty invested in her mini storyline when I first went through Far Side. She's a nice tragic heroine and I really look forward to being able to read her Remake route in 10+ years.

Really fun route that tied everything together (well, not Arc, Ciel, and Hisui so much). Route had a lot of kino scenes like Shiki and SHIKI talking, Akiha going ballistic, Kohaku crying. The ending felt a little weak though, coming off of Hisui True/Good. Akiha being the one to reveal Kohaku's murderous plans makes it feel less impactful in a way? Like, Kohaku obviously did a LOT wrong, and while forgiving her for that is fine, it almost feels like the route just ignores it because the last 2 chapters are about Yandere Akiha.
Kohaku was a great heroine, I liked how at some points it seemed like she was intentionally/subconsciously letting hints about the twin personality swap slip in her conversations with Shiki, which eventually let him figure it out.

Ciel definitely had the best chemistry with Shiki out of all the other girls. Shiki and Ciel are literally like a married couple from the very start of the VN.

In the VN, Ciel is consistently the only character that is shown to be competent, assured, and benign. She is consistently the only character Shiki can trust. She is, consistently, the only character that knows what she's doing, and is willing to help Shiki. When Shiki is babbling around like the retard he so often is in the VN, Ciel is always here to reassure him, help him get back on his feet, and is just a great human bean in general.

Ciel was a secretive mask-upon-mask character and becomes unpredictable because of how often she switches between them even though Ciel acts completely independent from Shiki and the rest of Tsukihime's plot. The umbrella scene where Ciel finds Shiki in the rain and he has nowhere to go, so she takes him to her apartment and help him get back to his regular self. That scene is also triggered by having Shiki face reality instead of denying that it happened and having him believe that it was just a dream.

Ciel was cool as hell, with Ciel running up the wall and attacking from the fucking CEILING and Shiki can’t help but be honest and think of it as “charmingly beautiful”.

Arcueid is immortal, but she never really lived until she met Shiki. That around one week of living meant more to her than an eternity of empty life. And her short time with Shiki is in my opinion representative of how short life is sometimes while also an affirmation that it still matters, no matter how small and finite it is. It doesn’t matter that their days together were so few. To both of them, those days will be what they hang onto for the rest of their existence.

This is contrasted with Roa, who sought endless existence over life, erasing himself so much that his current existence is just, kind of sad. His pursuit of eternity led him. down a dark path, but ironically, what “corrupted” him is what is most humanizing about him. He fell in love with Arcueid, and I think that became more important to him than continuing to chase eternity. He just wants to be pursued by her and have her for himself. In Ciel’s True End, he literally burns himself away just because he wants to be recognized by her, literally giving up eternity for a moment of recognition from the woman he loves. The only moment when Shiki can really hear from the person Roa is after his death in Ciel’s route. Before that, Roa is just existence and directive. Him being able to die and put that book down is what is needed to complete him, not his attempt to witness the completion of humanity’s journey. Every book got to have an end.

By eclipse, Shiki himself confirms that he doesnt have much time left due to how much he overused his eyes. Dude is a dead man walking.

Being Shiki is suffering. No matter what ending you get, the eclipse still shows him as dying and reminiscing his life on the grassy field.
