https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLaPC8V_k6CYWKudWE9RQHaleXpUBAG0Q4&si=iA4Lu8e9c_K1BBIs
I’m hesitant to believe it’s any meme reason. I also don’t know that it’s just their time investment because there’s no way all of them had proper guidance going through school. Most of them are drawing at professional levels: you can’t do that simply by just grinding. The only common threads through all of them is that they do all sorts of different mediums and subjects and the fact they all seem to do frequent studies. Is this all you need?

How did so many of these kids get so good at art?

I have like 50 gigs of Krenz courses from the video course thread, and I'm wondering if I should even bother seriously studying this crap, or if I should just move on and draw what I like.

You should always be drawing what you like. Angle control is a skill that's meant to help you do that, you can just practice these skills with the things that you like to draw.

>> No.7148192

>>7148100
The most important thing is to figure what kind of person you are.

Are you a flaming faggot who doesn't care about drawing like shit, don't care about criticism and your art consists on drawing dicks on cartoon characters? Then you don't need perspective.

Are you a self-hating autist who shits on your own skills and could only be satisfied by producing great work? Then learning perspective is a must.

Assuming you are the latter, you will have a hard time finding a way to learn properly. Youtube is full of shit artists of the first kind, you have to find a Formal perspective series or pay a course online.

Learning perspective helps you develop intuition to imagine 3D spaces for drawing freehand. During your journey take your own notes on ratios for things in reference angles. For example a front facing perfect cube can be drawn by drawing a square and at the center of it another square that is 3/5 of the length of the larger one.

Ngl this looks so easy to do. And I don't mean doing it properly, I mean the way he did it. Most of the elements here don't fully rotate, while some rotate too much like the cuffs and the belt. The ground and the hands do a good job of selling g some rotation, but there still some iff. I can't wait to see the artist do this better in the future

It was monthly, and even a monthly serialization requires finishing pages daily. Even if it's just a 25 page chapter, factor in the time it takes to storyboard it and you're still needing to complete an average of 1 page a day. It's really not a "massive overestimation" nor is it "unjustly putting someone on a pedestal" to look up to that. I certainly don't think it's unreachable though.
I'm not serialized but I am a pro manga author and even drawing all day every day I'm only finishing 2 pages every 3 days or so. It's a bit higher level of polish (not to say I'm as skilled as someone like Kui though) and I'm drawing it on my own and in the end it'll still take me 3-4 months to draw a 50 page chapter. Compare that to the 1 month for a 25-30 page chapter of Dungeon Meshi and you can see that monthly authors are hardly slacking, they're just not pulling off the borderline superhuman shit that weekly authors do. And for the record there are monthly authors that put out chapters that are upwards of 60 pages (eg Doubutsu no Kuni), which certainly is very impressive.

The best way would be to pull up one of their backgrounds and try to copy it. Right now your picture lacks depth, so it looks like I'm staring at a very close inclined hill. If that's the goal, great job. If not, you can add depth by fixing these things:

1. The color green at the top of your field and at the bottom are the same. As the field gets further away from us, it will get much lighter.
2. You have detail all throughout the field. We should see a lot of detail guiding our eyes in the front, a bit of detail in the middle, and depending on how far you wanna push the field out you can just use completely flat colors in the back. Seeing individual blades of grass on the horizon is bringing it way too close to us.
3. There's not a lot of contrast in the grass shadows. As grass gets closer to us it usually has some pretty deep shadows that appear. You do have a bit of those shadowed blades of grass, I'd push it further. These shadows give you interesting opportunities for appealing shapes.
4. You're building your field with round, puffy hills and blended shadows. These won't really be visible as they get further away. Broad patches of grass will get flatter, and tend to join in triangular shapes. Really pay attention to how small and thin most of the shapes get as they get further away.

You can see all of these things in this picture. Look up more Ghibli pictures to see these things in action, and look up real fields too. Even real fields will have all of these things.

A lot of AI tech bros using generative AI relish in pointing out that generative AI will replace the visual artist. I was wondering if this was true it least from a commercial perspective and actually found out that hollywood and big studios are firing AI prompters and hiring artists back again. The reason? They can't produce the same quality of work that real artists can, they don't take critique well at all (are very thin-skinned) They can't reproduce works in a same general style that real artists can, etc. the list goes on and on. It seems that there is still a commercial need for talented artists that have trained in this field.

Even for hobbyists, why shit on them as well? Do they really not see the value in what an artist brings? Perhaps it's more nuanced than that. I've used AI to help guide my drawing process like getting specific poses for references or even aiding in costume design ideas. However, my final works are drawn completely by me. I think there's a place for real artists to actually use AI like a tool and not have it replace creatives entirely

In China they're doing the same thing but the reason is different. Chinese Artists are cheaper than AI specially because they don't have the tech since Muricans put a buying limit on China.
