Any tips for starting a handyman/residential service llc? I've done odd jobs off and on for the last 5 years and picked up a lot of basic repair skills fixing apartments, but I want to find something that I can get rolling as quickly as possible and have one or two things we can book out in advance with predictable time frames. I was thinking carpet cleaning and powerwashing would be good in this regard but I'm very open to any ideas you guys have had success with. I'm also interested to hear your stories of how you got started if you ever tried something like this.

Painting is a pretty low-skill requirement job and it could help fill schedule gaps.

The majority of people come here at some point for a fantasy DIY thing they have but never go through with it. But it's nice to talk about it and find out how plausible it would be if you actually follow through with it.
In my case, i have a friend who's interested in the same dumb idea as i am
Idea is to get a castle built basically, plain and simple. To avoid sounding or looking autistic we just say manor and dont have the idea to add in fake battlements and towers, just a set of buildings that naturally wall itself off from the outside world with a courtyard in the center, to house a few families worth of people (my family, his, and possibly some other friends)
it'd have a reasonable square footage per person, and if my career and inheritence goals become fulfilled i should be able to afford as much as 700k for building the home, he might be able to afford 250k-500k depending on if he ever manages to create a successful business, and additional rent could be collected from any other roommates living with us
lets say a construction crew builds the walls and foundation out of limestone or granite bricks, and professionals do the electrical, plumbing, and heating work, as well as the roof frame, could I feasibly construct the floors (going up to 4 stories tall at the highest), install the roof tiles, and rennovate the rooms using mostly lumber and plaster? I'd have help of course, but I'd be concerned that a full time job would take away the time i need to properly construct it.

Read the laws first, then. Here in germany, for example, you can dodge most of the permit requirements if you know how. Won't bore you with the details, but it's really simple stuff like declaring a house a shed for the first seven years, or feeding your grass cuttings to your children's pets to legally be considered a farmer.

And if like my family, you start from an old house that
a. isn't part of residential zone development
b. isn't under special protection because some historical person lived there or something similar
you can basically do whatever you want as long as the roof height and the length along your plot's borders remain the same, and legal requirements for firefighting and sewage are complied with.

Can't tell you what your local laws are like, of course, but starting from an existing farm would probably be easiest, legally speaking. Maintain the main building, place some "sheds" around it, then rebuild those sheds into living spaces.

i think if you aren't rich, the only way to do it would to be work construction jobs and get away with stealing building materials for a decade or 2.

>All that shit still has to work smoothly if one of your pals gets divorced and has to sell their share
this is the biggest issue in plans with living, but we're all friends that go to the same orthodox church and have connections through godparents
we see eachother almost like family
and since we're orthodox the likelyhood of divorce seems very low, not simply because theres rules against it but also because it teaches people to be as good of a person as you can be to your spouse
never seen an unhappy marriage in my church, and those who get married usually have several children
also only two of my friends are actually married, one being the guy who's interested in this thing like i am
for the row housing, i dont know if that could fit the legal definition or regulations, because the living spaces would likely be shared
and if by HOA you mean home owners association or something, the structure will be built on wooded or farm land
>>2797855
i dont think farmers are legally treated different from normal people, the only difference is that they arent subjected to the laws of a town or city, but still are to state and county laws
and while i'd love to build off an existing structure, the majority of farmhouses in america are massive mcmansions nobody can afford or shitty mobile homes, which i dont really want attached to a structure like a castle
and since a home on a property makes any land retardedly more expensive even if they're really dogshit and old its completely unviable to buy land with a house on it
for example heres this farmhouse near me, the house itself would only be worth like 250k on its own but because whatever boomer asshole owns this thinks his property is worth much more than that he's selling it for 2.5 million
https://www.landsearch.com/properties/dorrance-ks-67634/3305551
its also important to note that the average price per acre is only $3000, so the land should really only be worth $35,000 at best

>> No.2797866

>>2797862
some quotes i've heard for housebuilding online come at like $100 per square foot
its not from what i've asked any construction company or architect, but if i can keep it at or below that value its attainable
it should especially help that they'd essentially only be doing the exterior walls
also i said i'd have them do the roof framing, but truthfully i dont know if i trust construction companies to even do that well anymore
my biggest fear is that they'll just want to charge millions for simply stacking some fucking bricks instead of making a shitty cardboard house™

looking at this sort of roof design it seems like i could viably construct it myself, especially given the fact that you're apparently supposed to use green wood for roof framing
i could probably construct the bulk of the frame on ground level then pully it up to attach it to the walls to avoid the danger of constructing it ontop of the building

There is nothing wrong with it.
I usually 'lace' the valleys instead of cutting the overlap unless the customer requests it but with 'architectural' shingles like yours, cutting works better.

List of necessities:
I'm getting a tent today. got a 60kg backpack.
2-3L water
phone, battery pack, charger
mosquito spray
good shoes, 4 sets of clothes(more shirts and underwear)
eyeglasses

need to look at a tarp and some mobile pillow thing.
CAN'T own a self defense knife because my country is cvcked
Anything else I'm missing? advice?
I'm gonna be camping and spending most days in a library to work on digital skills. money for food isn't an issue.

socks, keep your feet clean and dry
consider a car instead of a tent
a lot of homeless in the america live in cardboard boxes
find a piece of hardwood for a walking stick, if there are abandoned homes anywhere look for a closet rod. banisters too but those are usually too big. get a penknife and your walking stick can double as a carving project to kill time
make lockpicks from metal in discarded windshield wipers. the bin outside an autoparts store just after a rain is a goldmine
look up penny stoves
idk why you want a battery pack it's extra shit extra weight and you haven't even tried being conseravitive with your only electronic device (phone) after charging it all day at library.
good shoes means boots right?
your clothes bag is your pillow. get a pillow case for dirty laundry to keep it separate from clean. consider how you will wash clothes (pubic restroom sink is a good choice, drying always sucks ass)
consider a hammock/mosquito net for bed
a painters drop cloth (clear plastic) is a better lighter tarp for rain. you can get free trashbags from bins if you find a janny who leaves extra clean bags when emptying.
source dumpster food this can be restaurant or grocery

first try not to need anything then consider if what you need can server multiple purposes (hammock/net replaces tent) and what is lightest/most compact (clothes bag replaces travel pillow)

remember that you have no ties to where you are, you can walk or hitch to greener pastures.

What are some good, preferably open-source security cameras to get?
I bought a wireless WiFi geeni Hawk 2 for like $80 CAD and I like the quality, however they encrypt the video so you cannot read the sd card yourself by plugging it into a computer, and restrict all usage to the mobile app.
Furthermore, I can only save remotely by using their paid cloud storage ($40/year)
And lastly, it's made by chinks.

So that being said, what does this board recommend? Ideally I'd like the camera to, via WiFi, record to a computer in my house on the local network. And of course retain decent quality. Bonus points for made in North America

Does anyone have any good ideas on how to take advantage of my patio?

I've finally stopped working myself to death and now I have free time to relax at home, particularly at night during the summer. I used to spend all of this free time at the gym or in the pool, but I kind of want to have a nice patio to spend time on or even buy a grill and furniture.

The overall space is about 14' x 9' with a wrought iron gate that opens down the walkway to the garage. There is an AC compressor in the opposite corner. I would like to:

-Take advantage of the free space
-Put some furniture out, preferably with my large umbrella over it (10' offset hanging cantilever umbrella with weighted base)
-Keep the costco plastic tiling since it is better than the berber carpet over cement (open to any alternatives other than poly/wood slats, since I'm worried about foundation issues)
-There is a carriage-style light right across from the sliding glass door on the wall.
-There is a lot of space for hanging plants, including two hangers around the iron gate.

Can you help a new homeowner to work out a nice patio setup that won't break the bank, but will also be a nice spot to hang out and maybe host some people?

Strip the exif, if you must. While the drawing is nice, there's not much context there...while I can tell that there's a house where the sliding door is, it would be helpful to know what lies outside the boundary of your 9x14 area.

Nothing matters outside of the boundary--thus the picture! The door is just included to make it clear that nothing can be within a few feet of that central open area. But if you absolutely must know, outside the gate is a pathway to my cuckshed and through the sliding door is my wife and her boyfriend's bedroom.

Does anyone have a good co-op plan for a novice carpenter with limited access to tools?

I can always buy a couple of tools like a handsaw which seems necessary.

I have a few chicks in the broader who will be graduating from a coop sometime in the future.

I plan on keeping 4 of them since it's a good number for a beginner flock. They are a larger breed of chicken so I'm estimating 16 sq ft of space (4 x 4) minimum.

Good advice, I checked my local marketplace and was able to find a corded circular saw for a low price of ten dollars, that seemed to be the main thing I needed. Pallets are a good idea, one of my neighbors used pallets and chicken wire to build his own run. I don't really like how cheap they can look so I'll need to look into good paints for it. I'm going to use a modified shed, this way I dont waste time + money on making a coop from lumber and sheet metal that's going to be sub-par anyway (since I'm not a carpenter) because it's better than a pre-fab which will also be sub-par. I did consider the large kennel but it's going to be slightly more difficult to predator-proof and it won't have as much of a nest feel as an enclosed shed IMO. Ventilation and sunlight are important but I want to make sure my chickens feel safe enough to roost (I think indoors is better for nesting boxes). Please consult the technical drawing.
Layout, how many lights and other stuff is subject to change, just need to understand how to wire it in general.
I will level my yard and start installing a new fence next week and when that's done I'm making driveway as per the drawing. That's all piss easy.
That driveway, gate posts and house exterior will have yard lights and I need to figure out how to wire it correctly, according to how I have it planned.
Turning it all on and off would be piss easy but I want it to light as follows (arrows in the drawing)
>1 orange
gate slowly lights up
>2 blue
driveway lights come on, one by one, from gate to the front door
>3 purple
Wall lights come on, first next to the door then the ones further from the door
>4
Everything dims down and turns off when turned off/sensor turns it off

I will have the main panel in the house feeding 220 so the cable will go, buried, next to or under the driveway.
I obviously need dimmers and some way to switch lights on, one by one.
I would be very thankful if any of you lads could point tne in the right direction as idk what dimmers I need and how to wire it up this way.

street and wall lights 120v with a daylight sensor inline. driveway lights solar wireless.

to actually do your retard shit you just need a light controller, programmable light controllers exist for fancy christmas displays so literally get one of those. the controller will determine the wiring (1 line to each light) so start trenching and get some conduit.

Yeah I figured. Fuck that.
I'll just have it come on via sensor and wont bother with the gay shit. Solar sensor with timer for yard lights and for the gates.

Is there anything I can do to fortify my luggage? I paid extra for this one because it had the little lock things instead of a normal zipper, but after inspecting it it is just so flimsy. I have a 10 feet thick chain and a couple of locks but they're too heavy to carry it around. Context : Moving out of my parents home and I'm gonna live with total strangers and want a safe place to store my possessions while I work/run errands.

Is Hitachi/Metabo HTP/Hikoki truly the thinking man's tool brand? The answer is yes but why did they fuck up their branding so bad? Why not just keep using the name Hitachi instead of making everyone think that it's now Metabo?

They had a bipolar only license to make IBM clone mainframes, but shut that down around 5 years ago.
HDS used to sell storage units and servers they somewhat made themselves (back when they made hard drives) but now they’re just re-branded supermicro.
Their electronic fabrication spun off into renesas and elpida.

Maybe, must be big profit margins on that.

I believe they might still be involved in making their pneumatic tools (or at least the same factories) … those were legendary.
Also, electric trains and nuclear reactors but thise things are harder to quantify.
They pulled out of the U.S. stock market like 10 years ago.

tremendous. It's basically a closed environment. the government standards and certs needed for these devices (think immense MRI machines, etc) are so huge that it effectively locks all but the most massive companies out of building them, which in turn means that they can charge a super-premium for actually selling these devices. A major hospital looking to buy a full modern MRI is paying close to 600-700k for the machine alone, sans construction/installation, magnet quench system, Safety controls, piping, control room equipment/construction, etc. They're multi-million dollar machines and most good-sized hospitals will have 3-4 of them.

I learned about Mitsubishi in the 90s when I went over to a friend’s house and he had a Mitsubishi big screen TV and he said his dad worked for Mitsubishi Lasers.

Consumer products are nothing for these companies that are involved in heavy industry. A single mining job or some oil rig is probably like the numbers of thousands or tens of thousands of passenger vehicles sold.

Mitsubishi has been selling tons of their mid size trucks like the Fuso for decades too.

Also, I don't get the difference between convection without fan and simple baseboard heater. They both seem to heat air the same way only convection acts like a chimney.

Recommendations for riding lawn mowers?
I'm sick and tired of mowing with my small push mower. I seriously just need more so I can finish faster and continue with my other /diy/, /fit/ , /v/, /n/ and /sex/ endeavors.

I'm currently looking at buying pic realted new. It has a kawasaki engine which is supposed to be good. I don't have a truck so buying used is not an option right now.

zero turns need both hands, better get a regular lawn tractor for that.

>> No.2797179

>>2797135

Yeah, Toro makes good stuff; it's a toss up though in many cases whether a cheaper mass produced unit with cheap and readily available replacement parts is worse or better than a more expensive unit that may kill you on parts...that may not be *that* much more reliable.

>mower decks over 42"

Unfortunately zero turns being superior in all ways to "old fashioned" lawn tractors is a big marketing meme these days and smaller lawn tractor deck sizes are becoming fewer and farther between, especially combined with motor options.

Anything under 46" or so is now almost guaranteed to be priced to make a larger tractor or zero turn seem like a no-brainer, and will have a weak one lurking ger motor designed to die within a year or two when used for any sized lawn where you really benefit from a rider.

The other factor besides time to mow and yard size is how aggressively things grow where you're at...we can get 60" of rain/yr and high heat and humidity in the summer so that our lawn *needs* mowing every 4 days, if only because waiting five might mean it gets rained on and then you're at 7 or maybe 10 days out by the time it dries long enough to cut again. A fast mower that cuts as wide a path as will fit makes sense here and having too big/powerful a mower is almost always better than the opposite.

my parents have one these first generation 42" Ryobi zero turns, while it has had quite a few electrical issues over the years (batteries, multiple control boards and both blade motors were replaced under warranty) the overall design makes for a much more compact and maneuverable machine that is great for working in tight areas and hillsides. the electric motors have loads of torque, no louder than a hairdryer when cutting and is stupid fast when cruising around.

traditional zero turns still have their transmissions linked to the same engine but the electric drive motors are completely independent of each other and can fully spin you around in a single spot, making it way more precise than a gas model. its a good idea that just needs to get the kinks worked out. last time i was at Home Depot they had rows of them getting rusty out front, which is definitely bad for the sensitive electronics throughout the mower.

>> No.2797283

go to home depot and buy the cheapest rideon they have...
why the fuck would u buy a zero turn for home use

or buy one of those automated mowers, i hear they work ok

I have to return the appartement back to the landlord and should repair what I broke (it's actually my fault, I used the thing to hang out towel and that's what rubbed against the frame).
How can I do that for pic related?

I believe there is such a thing as fair 'wear and tear'.

>In the context of residential lettings, fair wear and tear means damage to carpets, decorations, fixtures, fittings and furniture that would reasonably be expected during a tenancy.

I feel like the 'damage' in your photo would fall under 'fair wear and tear'.
The landlord should really repaint between tenants anyway.

I'm building an instrument that includes one of these robot mouths and I was wondering if anyone had recommendations on what silicone to use.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08CVQJ4YD/ref=ewc_pr_img_1?smid=A2YYYL5LUO3PVM&psc=1
I was thinking this would work since it's shore 15, which seems like the right softness to replicate what's in the video.

Also, if anyone has silicone casting tips please share as well. I've only done this once and it was like 10 years ago.
