The Parable of the Hens in the Orchard

Imagine a guy planted orange trees, and it turned out wild hens liked to roost in among the orange trees, and the guy got beautiful free eggs.
Then imagine a bunch of other people saw him, and instead of planting orange trees, they set out net traps for the hens.
So there was a period where everyone was happy, the man got oranges and eggs, the hen trappers got hens and eggs.
