Can I get some recommendations on some /vr/ related kaiju games? After watching Minus One, GxK, and various showa Era Kaiju flicks it's got me in the mood to play some related vidya but all I can think of is the Godzilla games and I know they range in quality though I'm not sure which ones are good and which are not so good.

The GCN and PS2 (and Wii port) games are stupid fun. A lot of kaiju games are strategy games which is the opposite of what I would prefer. The GB Gamera game isn't amazing but it looks cool in action

You weren't kidding. Looks like it plays into Japan's weird love for Rock, Paper, Scissors style games (which is awful) but visually it did look nice. Out of those GC and PS2 games it looks like Unleashed wasn't terribly well received but the other two are well liked.

The Godzilla game on Saturn is great. It plays like Advance Wars and uses clips from the movies as cutscenes.

The Godzilla game on Game Gear is similar. Some might prefer this one.

King of the Monsters 1 and 2 are great.

Both of the Godzilla games on SNES are good. One is a fighting game, the other is a.... I'm not sure how to define Super Godzilla. It's kinda like the Ultraman games. On that note, there's 2 Ultraman games on SNES that are alright.

I love Godzilla: Monster of Monsters for NES. It's not a great game but it's not terrible. And regardless, I love it.

Rampage is okay. You can't really go wrong with it, except possibly by playing it for more than twenty minutes per year.

Primal Rage is awesome aesthetically. I can't judge its quality from a mechanical perspective because I am a casual player in that genre. Supposedly it is so hard to emulate that no completely functional version of it is easily available, even in official compilations etc., or something like that? But whatever, it's still cool.

I think you sometimes play as the giant monster Kabuto in Giants: Citizen Kabuto. Some people say that's a good game. I dunno, I got into Sacrifice instead.

Bowser's Inside Story is off-topic for this board.

Rugrats in Paris lets you play as Reptar I think. You probably shouldn't play this.

I offered several great suggestions and you just outright ignored me. Fuck you, asshole. This board was better when people actually discussed things.

If you want to consider Rampage, it fucking slaps. Or Super Rampage if you want something on console.

>> No.10889821

Sorry, it wasn't called Super Rampage. It was Rampage World Tour.
Enjoy your macro fetish, OP.

For Primal Rage at least you have the 32bit ports and the DOS one for some decent stuff. Until the copy protection gets cracked, the arcade one is kind of useless.

Exactly. I beat Unleashed on the Wii in a single sitting a while back; it was awful Wii controls at their peak but I don't regret giving it a few hours. Apparently the PS2 version is drastically more playable but I haven't tried it.

Neon Genesis Evangelion on N64 is like a spiritual successor to the SNES Ultraman games which were already mentioned

>just watch Biollante the other day and it was as good as I remember
>watch King Gidorah after
>there are scenes in there that would make the most goofy of showa era Godzilla blush in embarassment

I wonder what caused the massive tonal shift between the two?

That Saturn Godzilla game looks pretty dang comfy to be honest.

Pro tip, post without expecting a response if you like the topic and just interact with others about said topic. You'll be a lot happier than expecting (you)'s.

Giant bugs are always in a weird spot for me personally. I don't feel like they are kaiju, but then, godzilla did fight a giant praying mantis.

There's a pretty huge tonal shift between them; something about 1989 vs 1991. I think of Biollante as an outlier (and also the best) among the Hesei films.

>> No.10891673

I think the Return of Godzilla and Billante was them trying to rebrand Godizilla first for a family movie, then more for adults... but much like most toku, they realized that children were the main audience so after Biollante they really leaned back into making it a kids movie.

Got nothing to back that up, but just a guess.
