Do you get every star in a level in one run, or go from level to level doing whatever stars you feel like?

Couldn't be me. Feels wrong to play this way, the game actively encourages you to move on to other levels and keep exploring, not to mention a lot of stars don't really feel fun to do back to back

you can do the five rings in 3 canon shots
and after doing every lobby star you can get bowser 1 and 2 and all caps in a row
