i don't know OP. but i think it have something to do withe the packaging. the visuals and design. people have degrees in how to design the pictures on those things. marketing advertisement. makes the whole thing to be like a game.

maybe its some sort of communication. the exchanging of resources. its a bounding experience. thats why the cashier always is supposed to be so nice and smiling. you get a sense of doing something important with this person.
