Everyone in this topic is missing the point.

Noone is mad because the kid is smart or arrogant. We should be getting mad because of all the Christians and idiots that think that because he can do University level math a bit earlier than most that he is somehow an authority on relativity/the big bang.

People look at him and think: Wow, this kid is pretty smart.
And he is. FOR HIS AGE.
But then they continue to think: If HE says he can disprove the Big Bang then there's obviously something wrong with it! After all, he is a GENIUS!

They'll blindly follow him because he affirms their beliefs, meanwhile his peers (who probably make fewer mathematical mistakes than this kid has mad) and his Professors (who, while much smarter, are expected to be smart) will go ignored when they say "Well, his pretty smart, but his theories are wrong" because
1. You can't criticise a child. He's free to say whatever he wants. Science makes exceptions for children.
2. They're not seen as special because they're not smart for their ages. They're EXPECTED to be smart.

Then the kid goes up to the board and starts writing god damn integrals and I'm like "fuck, I hate integrals, I always fucking suck at them." So I'm not following him and I know most of Glenn Becks regular views aren't following him, but I'm sure they take one look at the fancy equations and instantly accept everything he's saying because they are fancy. Meanwhile, Beck gets board and starts dicking around and I've totally lost what the kid is doing because of his shinanigens (not that I would have understood it much better the first time through, I suck so bad at integrals). >> No.3786822

>>3786651
>>3786749

Seriously? This is just Calc II stuff...

Using the Integral Test to see if a series converges or diverges. Here, I'll finish it off for you...
<span class="math">\int_1 ^\infty \frac{2 \sin {(x)} \cos {(x)} \mathrm dx} {1 + \sin ^4 {(x)}}
Let <span class="math">u = \sin x
<span class="math">\mathrm du = \cos x \mathrm dx
<span class="math">\int_1 ^\infty \frac{2 \sin {(x)} \cos {(x)} \mathrm dx } {1 + \sin ^4 {(x)}} = 2 \int_{x=1} ^{x=\infty} \frac{u \mathrm du} {1 + u^4}
Let <span class="math">w = u^2
<span class="math">\mathrm dw = 2u \mathrm du
<span class="math">\int_{x=1} ^{x=\infty} \frac{2 u \mathrm du} {1 + u^4} = \int_{x=1} ^{x=\infty} \frac{w \mathrm dw} {1 + w^2} = \left [ \arctan {w} \right ]_{x=1} ^{x=\infty}
Substituting back to <span class="math">x
...
<span class="math">\left [ \arctan {w} \right ]_{x=1} ^{x=\infty} = \left [ \arctan \left( \sin ^2 {x} \right) \right ]_{1} ^{\infty} = \arctan \left( \sin ^2 {\infty} \right) - \arctan \left( \sin ^2 {0} \right)
.

Note that <span class="math">\arctan \left( \sin ^2 {0} \right) = \arctan \left( 0 \right) = 0
. And <span class="math">\arctan \left( \sin ^2 {\infty} \right) = \arctan \left( [0,1] \right) = [0,\pi / 4]
Thus the integral converges on some interval <span class="math">[0,\pi / 4]
, but does not absolutely converge.
And therefore the same is true of the infinite series.

The problem isn't just the acting. But on that note, he wasn't the ONLY bad actor. None of them were good.

It also had strange dialogue at certain parts, plot threads that went NOWHERE. I mean, there's that scene where the guy pulls a gun out on the kid over drugs and it NEVER comes up again.

The main plot doesn't advance at all until the final 20 minutes. It's just:
-MUM, I don't love Johnny.
-Marry him anyway
-HEY GUYS LET'S PLAY FOOTBALL
-MUM, I don't love Johnny.
-Marry him anyway
-HEY GUYS LET'S PLAY FOOTBALL
-MUM, I don't love Johnny.
-Marry him anyway
-HEY GUYS LET'S PLAY FOOTBALL

There are sex scenes everywhere. Mark would say "No Lisa, let's not do this anymore" while screwing the bitch. And I SWEAR some of the scenes were played out of order. There's that one part where it's a month away from the wedding, the very next scene is them in their tuxedos talking about the wedding and photos implying that the wedding was over, then the rest of the movie takes place one month before the wedding. Like, that scene was from a future alternate timeline where Lisa and Johnny actually got married and was stuck in for no reason.

AUTISM AND THE GOD CONNECTION

>> No.3787023

> Wiseau, confused about the differences between 35 mm film and high-definition video, decided to shoot the entire film in both formats with two cameras side-by-side on the same mount.

> Many lines of dialogue (especially those of Wiseau's) in the film are dubbed, with the audio often not synching to the mouth movements onscreen. The original script was actually much longer than the shooting script and contained numerous wordy monologues and even more irrelevant information. The script was heavily edited on set by the script supervisor and the actors. One anonymous cast member said that the script contained "stuff that was just unsayable. I know it's hard to imagine there was stuff that was worse. But there was."

> Greg Ellery has claimed that Juliette Danielle was 18 years old and just "off the bus from Texas" when shooting began; Ellery also claims that on the first day of shooting, "the cast watched in horror" as Wiseau jumped on Danielle and immediately began filming their "love scene". Wiseau has claimed that Danielle was originally one of three or four understudies for the Lisa character, and was selected after the original actress left the production.

> Kyle Vogt (Peter) quit the film halfway through the shoot. His lines in the last half of the film were given to Ellery, whose character is never introduced, explained, or addressed by name.

>Tommy Wiseau claims to have financed the film by importing and selling leather jackets from Korea. He refuses to further elaborate on this.

>10 million dollars from leather jackets

>> No.3787038

>Tommy Wiseau esoterically addressed several fan questions in a special Q&A feature filmed for the DVD release. Among these are "Why is it called 'The Room'?" (to which Wiseau replies that the title is meant to evoke a safe place for viewers) and "Why is everyone playing football in tuxedos and standing only three feet apart?" (which Wiseau doesn't answer except to say that football is fun and that playing it without protective gear is a challenge).

Treating him like this is child abuse. But, depressingly, he'll never develop the skills to look back and realise how much of his potential was being wasted by this treatment.

And really that's just as good, right? Even if we could accurately hold multiple dimensions in our heads, our intuitions for these realms is all wrong, and we'd hardly be able to relate any results to anyone else in any case.

Make no mistake, it's amazing that people can picture these things. But unless they also have the maths to back it up, well, they might as well be making it up.

>> No.3787377

Well, yeah, I don't trust anything that isn't backed up by math. Still, I was pointing out that it's perfectly possible for someone to be unable to "think" in three dimensions.
