I'm definitely not a "climate scientist" (whatever that means) but claiming "AI beats them" while requiring the data output from said billion dollar industry to train/validatd is a bit silly. It's like people talking about AI making artists obsolete while having no awareness of the absurd amount of human generated artwork that is necessary to produce a trained generative model like this.

That same billion dollar industry will need to continue operating so that the AI can continue to be retrained as the environmental parameters change (the stochastic processes involved aren't stationary, so having trained at one point and time isn't some ticket to having a golden model forever).
