You are placed in a medium-sized room and given enough food and drink to last you 40 years. All of the worlds knowledge is at your disposal in the form of PDFs on the computer you are given with a decent internet connection. There is also decent lighting in the room and a bathroom with plumbing. You can order packages from Amazon, within reason. You cannot alter or destroy your room.
1) how do you spend your time in this room for the next 40 years?
2) say that during this time you are required to solve a major issue/conjecture or make an improvement that will benefit the world. What do you choose and why?

I'd kill myself, why would I want to live in a room for 40 years?

I'm choosing P=NP from clay's institute, because I already wrote an optimized program for student anti-pairs, as they state in a problem, that really doesn't need factorial in process.

I'll be reading books and taking some brutal anti-aging pills.

This is useless if you have to teach yourself. There's a reason tutoring and apprenticeship is a thing, it prevents future learners from making the same mistakes that countless people made before them. You're going to leave that cage in 40 years with only an advanced insight into any topic, but you absolutely won't be an expert in anything. You're better off doing what this guy said >>15948549.

>> No.15949495

I'd probably just try to write software, and then donate the profits so that other people can perform research. What kind of research can one guy really do in a room by himself?

>All of the worlds knowledge is at your disposal in the form of PDFs
typical incel fantasy.
real knowledge is built from doing stuff in the real world and talking with and watching mentors and experts and peers in your field.
this "self taught book list maths phd" incel scenario just shows your utter inadequacy to be a functioning member of society

Nobody said anything about being a functioning member of society. Sounds like you're projecting and you have a learning disability. If you read a book in a topic and do the exercises, you gain informatiom that you would otherwise gain from talking to peers and experts(because those are the people that presumably wrote the books you are reading)

This scenario is better than working 40 hours a week in muttmerica where home ownership is out of reach and you're so tired from working you can't even use your free time and then mentally fried from needing to worry about budgeting to just stay alive. What OP described is literally better the hell that 80% young of Americans live.

Through the end of my junior year in highschool, the summer, my senior year of highschool, and the summer after that the school was shut down because of covid and I was in my room always except to eat food or go to the bathroom. But I didn't do anything really, I just watched porn and anime and played games and listened to music
