Why do mathematicians scream so much when PI is approximated to 3? It is a pretty good approximation, it's only 5% off the true value.

How much is "so much", five-percenter?

>Be me
>Architect
>Client has a new job for me
>"Whats the job?"
>Need to build a bridge
>Need pi to calculate some shit
>No room for a margin of error (not even 5%) this shit needs to be sturdy as fuck
>Decide that [math]\pi \approx 3 [/math] is good enough kek
>All done with the calculations
>Plans are looking beautiful
>Send these plans to construction and they start building
>Construction looks at the plans and see nothing wrong
>"The architect knows what he's doing" they say

6 months later

>All done
>Bridge is beautiful
>Given the honor of driving across it first
>Hop into my Toyota Corolla
>Feeling prideful
>I'm on the bridge now
>The bridge then spontaneously combusts all around me and I fucking die

This is what happens when you don't calculate pi OP.

look at a regular hexagon, and then a circle.
If π=3 these are the same shape.

i think what is stranger is when some arbitrarily created equation gives 3.141682... and they talk about it like it's some miracle of the universe because it "almost" equals PI

There are 1049 metres in a kilometre.
It's a good approximation, because it's less than 5% off from the correct value

Because if you did that you'd also be able to round i to 0 which would never do.
Before we know it, infinity would be rounded to an integer and all heck would break loose.
