While exploring entropic gravity theory, I formulated a model of Jarmo Makela's microscopic spacetime theory as a gravitationally attractive fluid. I discovered that this fluid can be treated as a Bose gas, and that (according to the values consistent my thought experiment), the value for "n_i" for the ground state in it's degeneracy equation (for those that don't know, it's the second LaTeX equation in this article: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bose-Einstein_statistics ) is equal to "alpha," the fine structure constant to within 4 decimal places.

I'm still uncertain about how to interpret this result but as soon as I do, I'm going to publish. I'm prepared to back up my statements with partial equations

can you explain your model of the microspace time theory please? broad strokes

Yes. This thought experiment/theory is based on Makela's theory, which is an analogue to Erik Verlinde's theory. Basics are as follows:

Spacetime is composed of microscopic black holes called plank particles. Plank particles are a thought experiment from QM, they are particles who's values are all the plank values. r= planck length, etc.

A field of these particles can be treated as made up of an arbitrary number of "acceleration surfaces", one of Makela's ideas. These surfaces have special relativistic properties are composed of plank particles.

"Sound waves" can travel through space-time via these particles. really, they are kind of like shock waves between different acceleration surfaces which are adjacent to one another. The "thermal" energy behind these waves are caused by the hawking temperature created by two acceleration surfaces pulling towards each other due to gravity. Post limit...

>> No.5078318

>>5078314
Depending on the exact formulation, these waves (or really, the shock-front of a wave) propagates at or slightly greater than half the speed of light (specifically, 0.5c or ln 2 c)

The gamma factor on the length contraction of the wavefronts appear to be equivalent to the the wavefunction needed for the correct Schrodinger equation describing this action. This part of the theory is still being worked out by me, but if accurate, that would mean this hawking-temperature-driven "thermo-gravitational" waves would be mathematically equivalent to a Schrodinger probability wave.

And as I mentioned, these acceleration surfaces can be said to behave like a bose gas, with all "particles" occupying the same "space" upon collapse.

The minimum number of expected particles found in the ground state (I assume the ground state of the planck particles is the plank energy divided by 2, the minimum allowed in QM) of this bose gas is very approximately equal to the fine structure constant.

I still don't understand this completely. The only force assumed is the kinematics of the model is that of gravity and entropy.

i am really feeling like there is no way in hell that the units check out on that...

and can you attempt to explain gravity vs entropy?

>> No.5078336

>>5078326
In this theory, and the theories it is based on, gravity is not a fundamental force of nature, but is rather a side effect of entropy; specifically, the entropy caused by Unruh temperature (and by extension, Hawking temperature) differences. It's highly correlated with the holographic hypothesis.

Gravity is Unruh entropy, if that makes sense.

The units are working out fine. The ones that relate to one another are mostly dimensionless. I would recommend reading the relevant papers.

You're throwing around random names and vague terms without any concrete formalism

Do you have a Lagrangian?

Does it recover standard model predictions?

Does it lead to a non-divergent graviton propagator?

Does it recover GR?

There are many crackpot "theories" that do not even touch high school dimensional analysis and reproduce these "constants" by playing around with numbers, but make no other predictions and have no other concrete formalism.

All entropic gravity theories I know of are nonsensical garbage and cannot recover experiment. See eg http://www.nature.com/nature/journal/v415/n6869/abs/415297a.html

The best example I can give you is of neutron interferometry. This has given an experimentally verified external potential for a neutron-Earth system. A linear combination of microstates in these "entropic gravity theories" cannot produce a Hamiltonian which agrees with it.

Your a fucking useless faggot. You assume all the bullshit about crackpot nonsense, provide no equations, predictions, etc and expect people to just take your fucking word for it?

Not saying OP is correct or anything, just that most people in the thread didn't care enough about this to throw a fit.
