I don't care about space or science until I don't need to worry about money anymore. Sick of bills and finances. Literally could not care less about anything until I'm free from needing to work 40 to 60 hours a week to only earn enough to survive.

The heatshield isn't just the tiles, there is a heat-resistant fabric they put on first, then the tiles over it. I assume that is what it is

If the air was that hot it would glow which it certainly wasn't doing at that point.
I think there's some insulation between the forward flaps and the ship that might be the source and it became dislodged by the first flap movements.
It isn't heat shield material.
