This is largely why I went the technician route. Someone needs to assemble, maintain and repair these machines, and I figured the path would be more direct than going back to college in my late twenties and hoping to win the internship lottery. I'm confident that the orbital industry is poised for a boom, and that my skillset will be more in-demand in the near future. I'm just concerned with how best to set myself up for the right opportunities. I really can't convince myself to move to California, so hopefully I can find something in assembly and integration somewhere more suitable for raising kids.
