HLS has the added benefit of being big enough to serve as both a temporary base (just take enough batteries and consumables to get through lunar night) and a permanent base

The atmosphere at the top of Olympus Mons is much thinner than where Ingenuity is. It couldn't fly at that altitude

If you're pumping out Starships you can sacrifice a few and have a pretty big base

How would you cover a starship module in regolith? Isn’t that stuff really sharp?

Since Starship HLS is huge wouldn’t it make sense for NASA and SpaceX to turn HLS into a base?

With its size HLS itself could be a base in its vertical position

I read this proposal for building the lunar base from the starship HLS emptying the fuel section, turning the starship horizontal and partially burying it in regolith to make a large quickly deployable and expandable base.

Does anyone know if this idea is going to be implemented?
I haven't been able to find any reliable info on what NASA's actual plan is in regards to building the lunar base with the artemis missions, just vague promises of making one.
