You need the paper for bureaucratic requirements. If you lose it you will have to contact the university which will have to look up on the register to emit a new one, and that new certificate will have to be authenticated to certify whoever signed the new one is the director of the institution, and will have to submit it to the ministry of education where somebody else will have to certify the signature of the guy who certified the other signature is real. This is easily 3 weeks worth of dicking around offices.

Now, the utter disrespect for the institution can have her banned and her degree revoked.
