A moon base is 100x a better idea than a mars one. You don't have to wait 2 years to launch anything, nor 6 months in a space can in interstellar space, the moon's one week trip away; there's water, regolith and metals, and it's cheaper to get materials there. Honestly, the mars base is such a retarded idea.
