This is not what the problem says.

The only random step is to randomly choose one of the two closed envelopes. To be consistent with the information given the other envelope must contain either $20 or $5, but there is no indication whatsoever to assume that the other envelope will contain 20 or 5 with equal odds. It is wrong to assume a uniform distribution just because you don't know anything else.

That faulty assumption leads you to an easy grift. Suppose you have to pony up the 10$ bill, the grifter puts his money in the other envelope and mixes them up, telling you one envelope has twice as much as the other. This means he put in either 5$ or 20$, so if you look at the expectation you have (10)(0.5) + (-5)(0.5) = $2.50 to gain by switching. The grift of course is that the other guy would never put in 20$ because he'd never stand to gain anything, at best he'd keep his money. So he always puts in the 5$, meaning the odds that you lose 5$ by switching on the 10 is 100%.
