According to the internet a novel on average ranges from 70,000 words to 120,000 words.
Does this mean i arguably have finished 10% of my book?
If so that would be an uplifting thought.
My biggest worry is not getting to the 70,0000 or having to stretch to get it over it.
I've mostly written 3 chapters (everything but more edditing) and am working on a 4th; is this a good rate for 7,000 words??

stephen king said he writes around 2000 words a day and takes around 3 months to finish a book

Yeah and i'm not fucking stephen king, nor do i have his time.
That being said though i'm more worried about getting through my chapters to fast (IE the chapters being to short)
7,000 words for 3 chapters sound good or shit to you?

rember anon, your novel/book ends whenever you feel satisfied

It’s not bad dude
A lot worse shit is a lot more wordy believe me

nta, but everybody writes differently. My chapters generally run around 10,000 words. Yours ight be only 2,000. Anything is possible. You don't even hvae to write 70,000 words. There are plenty of good novels in the 50,000 range.

write a few short stories before a novel.

Your goal should not be words, it should be meaningful content. If your primary goal is to write 100,000 words you’re doing something very wrong

Apperciate that man.
I know how it will end and in a rough way how we'll get there. My issue isn't that its just making sure it will just be a full novel when its done.
>>23331243
Thanks man
>>23331244
They're picking up in word count as I go.
Chapter 1 was about 1,300 words, Chapter 4 was roughly 3,000. I suspect 5 will be about 5,000 when its done.
>>23331246
Couldn't bring myself to do that man, aside from the shit I wrote here when I was a kid (creepypastas ect)
>>23331248
I have the content but i do want to be able to publish it as a book. I know thats a hard thing to begin with but I know from looking into it most places wont publish anything less then 70,000 words

I would try leading some longer books and see how those authors expand their ideas to take up a lot of pages. DFW and Tolstoy are masters at this and should probably be read before seriously sitting down and writing anyways, just to get those cognitive gears working at maximum efficiency

Apperciate the advice man
I've dipped my toe in both but i should probably sit down and actually read through something full by both of them.
I dont want it to be to long but its worth knowing how to add fat as well as trim it given that i need to be able to give the right length for what i want to do

One of the more underrated books of the 20th century

You should worry less about word counts and more about getting from the beginning to the end of your story in your first draft.

Your book is shit and no one is going to read it. It really doesn't matter what you do. Stop overthinking it.

>> No.23332261

You could look at it that way. But there's a big difference between what it takes to build a one-story house, and a ten-story apartment building, even if you build ten one-story houses. There are certain logistical realities with writing a longer story whose parts fit together. So kudos for what you've done so far, but you've got a long way to go, and the path there isn't linear.

That i will do my man
But if i get to the end and have less then 70,000 words i'm worried about my odds of getting published
>>23332238
lol
>>23332261
I'm getting into a good beat i think and fitting shit together has worked out both in my mind and on the page up till now like i said where i end up page length wise is (as silly as it may sound to other anons with writers block) the thing that keeps me up at night
