I'm not the guy who made the meme, but it's a really old timey Russian-style witty book. A Russian nobleman is traveling the countryside buying dead souls (soul is the Slavic euphimism for an individual, a village with 500 people is called a village with 500 souls) from landowners.

I like the Wolfram von Eschenbach's version better.

Jeschute is the first woman Parzival meets after leaving his mother Herzeloyde. Since he followed Herzeloyde's advice literally due to his lack of courtly upbringing, he rudely robs Jeschute of her ring, a brooch and two kisses. Only a year later did he come to the Trevrizent hermitage to see that his behavior was wrong.

That wasn't very respectful of women at first.

I feel like the 'cities as a form of organization of individuals compared to the organization of thoughts and feelings in the human mind (like Descartes' Discourse and Plato's Republic)'-thing was alluded to every now and then. I tried to interpret it in this way but there were just way to many odd fluffy and flakey stories strewn in to really make sense of it.
I'm sure some anon could do an autistic systematization of it all and I'd be interested, but I didn't feel like it was very coherent overall.

Still a good book in my opinion but probably a good 4 roadtrip chapters could have been summed up in a paragraph. But in the book's defense the roadtrip stuff was obviously a huge part of his experience as a foreign volunteer, so it served to make the story less war glamorization and I'm sure a much better immersion/replication of his life then. In fact the "expected vs got" probably mirror's his own expectations going in.

Yeah, I'm almost finished with Meditations, and it's nowhere near as great as everyone touted. I think it's a must read, but people should understand that it was written with the intention of never being read by others. About 1/3 of the book is him repeating the same shit in different ways.
