Holy shit when this all starts coming together, I finally understand now why people rave about it. The pieces clicking into place and the entire thing starting to make sense is incredibly rewarding and beautiful.

It's also really funny. The scenes with Slothrop trying British candy or the lady driving the tank into the casino legitimately had me laughing out loud. And Roger's unrequited love is extremely sad.

I remember having that exact same feeling. I feel like it really gets off the ground in part 3. And then part 4 is just incredible.

The monologue at the end of Section 1 is one of the most profound and sad in the book. Where Roger wonders what the difference between war and peace is, one is just bursts of violence and dehumanization, the other is the same thing, except invisible, extended for decades. You're grinded down and spat out either way. The war always wins.

I mean there are multiple interviews where he talks about how he liked and found Pynchon inspirational. So yes, he was trying to do what Pynchon did

I find the structure of most post-GR post-modern literature to be blatantly ripping off GR.

what are some other GR like books? I've read all of Pynchon's work except ATD.

Never came together Slothtrop kind of vanished at the end into a weird concept or something like that

The peak was the festival at the village with Slothtrop dressed as a pig.
