I can already sense the seething j*ws vociferously pleading that there's nothing to see here.

Found picrel quite interesting. Book 1 is the best but the others are worth reading as well, some very good material interspersed with what felt at times like filler, most notably in 3rd. Would be interesting to hear Buddhist practitioners' (or others') thoughts on some of the rituals/exercises. It's Western (the word magic in the context of the title should be understood more as the aims of theurgy) but kabbalah is never cited, because the idea was to show underlying Western tradition(s) which are prior to or at least separate from kabbalah. I suppose the overarching weltanschauung is Traditionalist (basically a la Guenon) but there were many different schools converging, like Pythagorean FMs, initiates of different Hermetic groups, Anthroposophists, ex-Theosophists, maybe some more obscure filiations which I'm forgetting.

My understanding is that the point of meditation is to be raising awareness, awareness of awareness. Doing meditation wrong can result in the opposite (losing awareness/consciousness, falling in to deeper states of hypnosis instead of the opposite). If you're going to take it seriously and put time in to it, make sure you're doing it right. Some of the books I've read have warnings and notices for legal purposes on them. So people tend to take this stuff way too casually, Western material as well obviously.
