Here is the route I walked today. 25k steps according to my counter.
You could probably extend it by starting further down South, maybe in Aizu-Tajima. Extending it to the North is not possible because there is only the very busy main road with no pavement.

The route is pretty tame. Mostly flat or descending.

No, but I saw the snake in the glass bottle. I was really surprised that the admission to Tonohetsuri is free of charge.

One of the bottles is full of hornets, too.
Tonohetsuri isn't really the sort of attraction you'd pay money to see. It's just a natural formation, a shrine and a deadly staircase. But it is a place to stop, get something to eat, buy some souvenirs. I think they often have farmers markets there as well.

Just a vacation with a Reitaisai visit, several parties at weeb clubs and hikes. And I love to do round trips by train in Japan. It is so nice to be in a country with a functioning train system.
I'm back home now. In hindsight, I really do not recommend to go to Japan during Golden Week. It is by far the worst of the three holiday seasons in addition to Obon and the New Year's week.

In many cases I just look at satellite images and search for interesting looking areas which I can access by train. For instance, from Kami-Aso station to Shirakawaguchi station which is quiet nice except when you are surprised by a Taifun (ruined my hiking shoes on that day). But be aware that many Japanese country road do not have any kind of pavement. Pic related is at 35°33'13.0"N 137°10'37.8"E
I had quiet a lot of fun hiking on Rebun island and Rishiri island in Northern Hokkaido.
Hiking up and down Mount Fuji was nice, too. It can easily be done in one day. Just bring goggles or tight fitting glasses against the dust and gloves because it is cold on the top.

The botanic garden is pretty good and free of charge. The MacRitchie Nature Trail including the tree top walk is also pretty cool and free. The Marina and the Garden by the Bay are okay, too. In addition, there are China Town and Little India with temples and food.
