I used to use dualingo as it WASN'T horrible for beginners to get their foot in the door and get introduced, however, I'd always emphasize using other material as well. I'd also like to emphasize the WAS as since they partnered with crunchyroll, their already kind of shit app got FAR worse and completely unusable. Duolingo, the main problem I see, is that for languages in general, I see plenty people boasting about their streak, but no one actually becoming fluent in the target language.
I've seen people learning Spanish, French, German... using the app religiously for 5 years+, and they still can't read much, even less get around in a country where said language is spoken.
Any programme you follow for years like this where you're not reasonably fluent at the end is deeply flawed.
