Anyone else build stuff with OSB in lieu of plywood? Not talking ornamental pieces, but shop furniture, and the like?

It's cheaper than Plywood at my local home depot ($20 for three sheets, vs $35 for one sheet), but that could be because I'm in Michigan. Menards across the state line is much cheaper.

Questioning the longevity of building something like a TV stand with OSB rather than getting plywood.

If nobody will ever see it ever then gopher it. Otherwise, spend the extra cost and build something that you wont be embarrassed to display out in the open if and when you have houseguests.

There was a time when using plywood for interior furnishings was considered tacky. My how things have changed.

Anyway, dumbass, as long as it doesn't rain much in your TV room, your OSB furniture will last forever.

How could I smooth it out so the paint doesn't show the chips? I was thinking a layer of thinned glue over it, or just a shit ton of painting, sanding, painting, varnish buff wax buff buff buff.

???
osb is shitty and shit to work with but if you are just using it for shelves or a workbench top (that you sheath over with hardboard) it's good enough.

so if not seen, touched by bare skin or goes near water, it's fine

If you're using nigger-tier materials, just buy some MDF, it's easier to paint and make it look like something a human being would do.

MDF and veneer.

I would say jointing together pallet wood to make panels would be nigger-tier. People piss on pallets.

If you have a used construction materials place near you try a used kitchen countertop. It's basically what >>1690416
recommended except already done (and done well), should be cheaper than a sheet of plywood and wont warp 5 seconds after cutting

You can't, it's shit. You'd just be buying some other product which you could have started with in the first place.

ACX plywood is almost as cheap and is at least finish-able.

I've built countertops with my dad when we were building his house, and we used vinyl and what amounted to vinyl covering. Except I kept fucking it up, couldn't get it on right to save my life.

OSB is shit, has always been shit, will always be shit. Do not use OSB for anything, ever. It doesn't hold a nail, doesn't hold a screw worth a shit, and doesn't take glue worth a damn either. Pony up the extra bucks for the plywood ya fucking jew.
