Looks like wall was added later - base looks different. But that's not as bad as something I saw, but don't have pics of. They ran a new heating duct through an upstairs bedroom in an old house. Part of the way it ran along the floor, so they framed a box around it, sheetrock, baseboard, shoe molding, the whole works. It looked great. Nobody seemed to notice or care that it hid the access door to the bathtub fixture on the other side of the wall. When that fixture needs to be replaced, instead of $300 bucks rape fee, it will be more like $3000 rape fee.

Build by a government contractor almost certainly.

This is what happens when people move into a home with zero consideration of their accessibility needs and then demand that the local government make it accessible for them for free, not knowing that there are very strict safety regulations for ramps because of shitty people like them suing.

Maximum permitted gradients, maximum permitted slope lengths, no spirals allowed, minimum spaces for turning. That isn't the worst example.

Replace the tile and completely wrap the stair and tub surround, turn the sink into a small vanity, maybe put carpet over that carpet pad, reglaze the tub to work with the new tile, new light fixture and maybe strings or rails coming across, new railing or just remove it. This is all workable. The space will come together once you get going.

And they mis routered the whole stretcher so the treads aren't even sitting directly on the stretcher, but on shims instead???

Who TF did this
I'm not even mad about the panel, just remove the studs, pull the panel, replace the studs turn the panel around and put it back in

It looks like they installed into the skirt board well enough. But you're right, then need the center stringer and the 1x2s should be 3/4 ply.

I've been staring at that so long I missed that they boxed in the panel. I don't get to frame enough to really have this stuff down. At a house last year, they redid the basement stairs to expand the kitchen. They didn't actually cut new stringers. The skirt boards have 2x4 screwed under the treads.and the pitch is too steep because the walls and floor don't allow for a landing.

It's a prefab stair kit. Despite it looking janky from underneath, they usually hold up just fine. The routered riser/tread pockets are plenty deep enough that the treads or risers can't come out, since these are installed between walls which keep the stringers from being able to move outwards. The loose riser/stringer pockets and wedges are required so that the stairs can be installed at a range of angles depending on in-field conditions, and the wedges will never come out unless the installer forgot to glue them.

The stairs at my mom's house, which was built in 1974, are for the most part identical to these and are still solid as a rock despite levels of punishment I would say is probably considerably above average.

yes, which means it was motivated by something other than money. what motivates a homeowner to install something garish, expensive, and impractical like this? only one thing: spite. hatred for bureaucracy meddling in their life, which drives someone towards malicious compliance. only someone thinking "YOU want to tell me what i need to do to my property? YOU'RE worried about property values? YOU'RE using the letter of the law against me?" would do something like this as retaliation against the fat middle-aged HOA whore who pounded on his door trying to "Um Akchually" them

if the fat retard HOA kingpin karen stomps over from her house across the road after i finish my tasteful perimeter wall around my yard and says she doesn't like it and she's going to use the letter of the law to force me to tear it down because she found a regulation stating all houses must have a dedicated pedestrian entrance along the primary street-side and my driveway doesn't count, then i'm going to use the letter of the law against her, too, and make it even more of an eyesore to offend her and remind her that she's not the only cunt who can abuse the regs as a social weapon, so she needs to fucking step off

it's rotella or other gas station oil. think of oil you can only buy at oreillys or vatozone you can't buy elsewhere. chepest shit produced at the bare minimum requirements so it still passes as motor oil. like if you buy mobil1 or castrol they are real oil manufacturers but any house brand oil is the same as using cooking oil as your motor oil

there's more than a few driveways near where I live similar to this, not on as nearly bad a slope though. my question is why is it so outlandish of an idea to have it be a little shallower and have four or five steps from the garage into the house? as in put the floor of the garage slightly lower so you have a shallower driveway angle, but a handful of stairs to get into the main building. I would vastly prefer walking up four or five stairs versus making it significantly more difficult to park my car/walk out to take the bins out or pick up the mail.

or even could they not simply take a foot or so off the top of the land, assuming it's a new build?

In a western, when one of two characters says "This town ain't big enough for the two of us", it's a non-literal statement that indicates conflict between the two characters, and hints that one of them is going to kill the other.
In a comedy parody of a western, one character might say that, and then in a reversal of expectations they would begin construction work on expanding the town, an over-the-top gag that takes on a literal interpretation of the line and resolves the towns state of "not being big enough for the two of them" by making the town bigger instead of reducing the number of them in it.
In this image macro, the reader is expected to imagine the scene that preceded the expansion of the double-wide to have contained the line "this double wide ain't big enough for the two of us". The fact that the double-wide was then expanded is funny on two counts, because of the literal interpretation of the line leading to a reversal of expectations as in the parody, and because of the ridiculousness juxtaposition between two gunslingers in a cowboy western and two people living in a double wide.
