I'm a fairly avid arduino user (pic related... it has the same flamethrower mechanism as the pumpkin), though I haven't messed around with the bluetooth stuff. (I'm sure it would be simple, but the bluetooth shields I've seen are pretty damn big...)

I have a few digisparks coming in the mail; I may try to get one of those to communicate with the phone through serial with a direct connection to the USB port.

A single-sourced sensor array would be awesome; that's definitely the direction I would go if I started adding sensors. For the flamethrower/laser I would probably keep them separate so I could mix and match (and easily leave the house /without/ them.)
