The right makeup can cover acne pretty well. But idealy you should do something to clear it up. Spend the months leading up to con season to take care of it.

Acne makes me feel sad for the person because I remember being a teen and researching desperately for how to stop acne, and all anything I could find said was "it's just genetics" and "cover it with some cream" bullcrap. You really have to stop eating anything containing cooking oils, among other things. Unlike an obese lady choosing to go to a con in a bikini, absolutely no one wants acne, so I feel like anyone who has it just hasn't been told how to stop it.

Dont listen to the others, Digital Stars isn't the miku concert its vocaloid music dj by some of the producers at a club, I Went the 2 times it was at the nyc miku expo and I highly recommend it you will have a great time. I would also recommend the actual concert if you can still get tickets for a good price.

japan is hit or miss actually. at one of their recent shows they used the led screen but they hid it way better/blended it into the stage better than at miku expo. i think last year's magical mirai still used the projection screen.

If you can't sew, your options are going to be limited to what you can find online. Honestly, I'd suggest just looking at what's in the catalogs for the popular cosplay websites and pick one that speaks to you. Go for custom sizing if you can.

If people do recognize you being an "outfit repeater" they won't have a negative reaction. It's more likely to be positive: maybe they didn't get a picture of you, or only saw your cosplay online and were hoping to run into you irl, or just want to say hi again.
On a similar note, in my area there are a couple cosplayers who I see wearing the same thing at nearly every con year after year. People (me, irl friends, gulls) really appreciate them as a staple of the local scene, where it doesn't feel like the con until you've spotted them.

For characters that have a "street clothes" kind of outfit, I almost always recommend getting "real" clothes rather than cosplay. It'll be higher quality material, will likely have pockets, can give a more "real" feel to your cosplay, might not be much more expensive, and is something you can reuse in your non-cosplay fashion (if it's not too outlandish).
I did some quick research since I'm not familiar with the character. Although some cosplay sites are interpreting her jacket as a hoodie or with lapels, I see it as a varsity jacket worn in a baggy off-the-shoulder style. The stripes at the wrist and waist are a classic varsity-bomber feature, and then the forearm belts keep it from falling off when she wears it so loose.
However a cosplay jacket will certainly be lighter than a coat, more straightforward to find compared to googling variations of "brown varsity jacket", and won't have large buttons or other things that will match the simplified anime drawing better. So up to you which direction you want to take it.

I've done a variety of torn looks for my cosplays, it's pretty straightforward. My biggest advice is to decide early on how "cartoony" you want it to look as that will probably affect your approach.

The tattering process is going to take off fabric, so leave a little more of the sleeve remaining than you think you want to end up with.

I like to cut in a sort of wavy pattern, sometimes going further from the seam and then turning back in to constantly vary the shape. Even if you're doing a cartoony big-triangles approach you should add in a bit of curve to your cuts rather than just straight zig-zag lines.

A lot of those small close-together cuts will help the fabric fray more naturally as you start getting into abrasion.

Turn the shirt inside-out, then use short strokes to sand outwards, towards the cut edge of the fabric.
I have a lot of scrap sandpaper in the 80-150 grit range from my other projects. Start with a smaller number (more coarse) then work your way higher. This will make it start to pull, tear, and fray - you'll really quickly get a sense of how your fabric reacts to the different grits so you can switch between them for the desired effect.
I usually lay down scrap cardboard underneath when doing this so I don't scratch up my working surface by accident.

Going through the process of water, heat, and agitation will further damage the tears and frays of the fabric in subtle and natural ways. If I have the time I like to run it through the laundry at the halfway point, then come back and do more cutting and sanding to further it.

Alright so I'm a complete beginnner and I'd love to try cosplaying the summer uniform from Patlabor but I don't really know where to start. Most of it seems pretty straightforward but the vest seems like it'd be quite tricky to make myself.

3D printing if you want the easy route but most people just use foam. All the power armour suits are popular enough to have patterns or files somewhere you can download (or purchase).

As someone who has made 3D printed power armor (Not Fallout).
Don't do it, it's just too heavy. I don't know what the right answer is because I really like the sharpness and symmetry of prints. I really want to try a mix of foam and prints but I'm not there yet

The helmet will help, but the in-game model also has like 6" of stilts in them so it probably would look of not to tower over people

Check out some software called Armorsmith for sizing, basically punch in your measurements and you can snap pieces onto an avatar and tweak on sizes
